SALEM
Wilkscraft Creative Printing was established on Cabot Street, Beverly, Massachusetts in
1954—nearly fifty years ago. In the 1940’s, Norm and Bob Wilks had produced an occasional
newspaper and notecards in the cellar of their Magnolia Street home. In 1954 when Norm and Bob
came up with the name "Wilkscraft Creative Printing," most printing was still produced by
letterpress with individual metal letters and linotype.
As Wilkscraft expanded, computer typesetting, multi-color printing, direct imaging, and some
highly-skilled people superseded the old technologies. From the beginning, Wilkscraft emphasized design and creative concepts combined with up-to-date printing technologies. No printing job is started without being reviewed by a skilled graphic designer. Many important Massachusetts companies got their start with logo design, coordinated office forms, and marketing pieces printed by Wilkscraft.
In October 2002, Wilkscraft became part of Stephen L. Gangi Commercial Printing, Inc., of Somerville. Most Wilkscraft employees—some of whom go back 20 years—are still with the new organization. Originally from Cabot Street to Rantoul Street to Park Street, Wilkscraft moved to new facilities in Salem on November 1, 2005, and added a new Konica-Minolta PRO C500 digital color system.
